What we were asked to do
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) tasked us with designing a suite of reports that presented the findings from their Compass programme research in a way that was both engaging and accessible. These five reports were intended to be flagship products for the IRC, demanding high visibility and impact. The brief emphasised the need for each report to stand alone while simultaneously fitting into a cohesive collection. It was also crucial that the documents be multi-layered, enabling different audiences to access the information at varying levels through the use of imagery, standout boxes, infographics, and quotes.
What we did
We focused on creating a cohesive visual identity across the five reports, using consistent colour schemes, fonts, and layout styles while ensuring each report retained its individual focus. To make the reports visually engaging and accessible to different audiences, we balanced imagery, charts, and text, incorporating standout boxes, infographics, and quotes to highlight key insights. A multi-layered design allowed for both quick summaries and detailed data, catering to varying reader needs. For the Pakistan report, which lacked imagery, we emphasised graphical elements like tables and charts to maintain consistency with the other reports.
What they thought
The IRC was very pleased with the final outcome. The suite of reports successfully met their creative objectives, offering both accessibility and depth across the different audience levels. They particularly appreciated how each report maintained its individual character while still feeling like part of a unified collection. The design allowed the reports to stand out as flagship products, showcasing the findings of the Compass programme in a professional and engaging way. They were also impressed with how we handled the Pakistan report’s imagery challenge, as we managed to create a visually appealing and coherent design even with the limited visual content. The final product exceeded their expectations in terms of both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
