What they asked us to do
We were asked to create a campaign for Sue Ryder's flagship Christmas fundraising event 'Lights of Love'. This is an annual event where people light a candle – physically or virtually – in remembrance of people that they have lost. The hospices all have special days for this, often with large trees, where everyone gets together and the community of the hospices come to life.
What we did
We looked at a number of ways to bring light into the design, finally settling on candles as this had the most direct connection to the event and was largely secular, meaning that all could join in if they so wished. Sue Ryder's visual identity uses these large bubble shapes which we used to create a backdrop that looked like snowdrifts with a dark sky, further emphasising the warm and cozy feel of the event.
What they thought
We originally created the campaign identity five years ago and we keep revising it every year since. The warmth, and directness of the visuals appeals to all and feels just about right for the event.
